FIRST JOB FOCUS
“I am confident I will help you overcome your blockers and it will be a positive and self-affirming process.”
I have a depth of HR and recruitment experience which ranges from a magic circle law firm (Freshfields) to an ethical management consultancy (GoodCorporation). I know the qualities which are important to emphasise to organisations and strategies to communicate those on paper, on screen and at interview.
The proven effectiveness of 1:1 coaching and the opportunity it gives an individual for self-knowledge, career enhancement and growth through guided support is a revelation.
The sessions are in the context of a safe and confidential space which allows you to explore your ideas leading to increased confidence and renewed motivation to get the job which will suit you best.
“Sarah helped me to focus on which areas of work would suit me and set achievable targets for my job hunting which can be very confusing post-Uni. She also advised me on how to format my CV and cover letters, which I think definitely helped me get my new job.”

THE TYPICAL PROCESS
We start with a 20-30 minute call, giving us the opportunity to briefly explore the issues and get a sense of each other. It’s a useful starting point for me to start thinking about your aims in more depth.
Following up with a series of 1:1 Sessions, via Zoom or in person. The sessions last 60-75 minutes, a minimum of 3, (believe me, 6 is best) scheduled every 2-3 weeks. Each of these meetings start with a specific and defined goal so that our time together delivers the best result.
We explore your strengths, your ‘hero’ stories, what you have learned about your working style through casual jobs, internships, academic study and project work. Looking at which parts of those roles excited/energised you. Employers are impressed by a good work ethic, tenacity and reliability. When I am shortlisting CVs for consultancy clients, work experience doesn’t need to be internships in multinational companies. There is real value in the work you have done, even if it seems less relevant to your future career goals.
The process can include reviewing your CV, cover letters and applications, working through how to make them a more effective way to sell your strengths in candidate assessments. Editing with a focus on impact verbs, competencies and refining applications to the criteria required. Who are you? What drives you? What are your personal achievements?
The coaching provides you with a strategic approach to the hiring process from the initial screening to job specific requirements.
Part of this work will uncover self-limiting beliefs and unhelpful habits. You may have an unsubstantiated view of your value and your confidence may need a boost. Leaving University requires a substantial shift in mind-set and could be the first time you are without a plan of what comes next; that can feel daunting.
You will learn tools and strategies to make your job search and life more fulfilling and effective. You will identify your ‘flow’ and how to incorporate new behaviours into your routine. Flow is a term which refers to when you are completely absorbed in an activity, when it’s coming easily to you. Professional sports people describe a sense of the crowd seemingly disappearing, because the athlete is so focussed on being in the moment.
I have a generous attitude to out-of-session support in the form of sourcing articles, podcasts and relevant tailored content to enhance growth and understanding. Part of my strength as a coach is to be empathetic and challenging, co-creating a relationship where I can act as an accountability partner. I help you by creating agreed deadlines; I am the guide to success and you deliver on the work in time for our next session. We work together to achieve the outcome you are seeking. My perfect client is one committed to their stated goal, who is prepared to work with focus.
It all starts with a conversation.
We start with a half hour phone conversation in which we chat about your issues and what you are hoping to gain. We get a sense of each other and whether our working relationship will be successful.
If you are interested in a no obligation chat, please get in touch. So much of the success of the relationship relies on us being a good ‘match,’ so let’s start by having a no obligation conversation.
